Montreal Downtown- Day One- SU WU, Juliette & Chocolate

Montreal Downtown- Day One- SU WU, Juliette & Chocolate

Hope everyone is enjoying the rainy
spring weather in the east coast-:). I just got back from a fabulous
short vacation: Montreal, Canada. I was looking for a road trip  during the Memorial day holidays and  Montreal fitted perfectly as its just 6 hrs
drive from New Jersey. If you love french patisseries, Victorian architecture,
cobbled stoned alleyways, art galleries, boutique restaurants then Montreal is
a must in your travel list. We stayed in a beautiful boutique hotel: Chateau Versailles
located in down town of Montreal (Sherbrooke street ) walking distances to all buzzling
cafes ,hip restaurants , art galleries in the area.  This fine historic hotel was converted from
1676 built mansion still maintaining the old vintage charm with woodcarvings, ceiling friezes,
Italian carved marble and ornate Dutch fireplaces.

In our first day, we went on a site seeing
walking tour through Saint –Laurent road, it reminded me of Philadelphia, old
brick buildings were covered in colorful street arts (graffiti) , International/
Latin quarters  of new and old restaurants
where they mix old and new cuisines with unique Montreal touch.

We stopped for brunch at this new trendy place:
SUWU, it had a funky décor  and more
lively hipster vibe than the more traditional brunch places. We were quickly
greeted by friendly hostess and seated in no time, I ordered a Japanese breakfast:
deliciously thick slice of bacon, fried egg in a sticky rice ball. It was perfect
combinations of tastes melting in my mouth, not to mention tangy and spicy
sauce giving the extra kick.  My hubby
ordered the much healthy option, Avocado, egg toast , it came in a wooden
palate and simply delicious. We finished up our meal with SuWu house beer which
was pretty good.

We continued walking down in Saint Laurent road, checking few art galleries
and stopping at the local farmers market to take a peek at seasonal plants.

It’s almost time for a snack and saw this chocolate bar called  ‘Juliette& Chocolate‘, what an elegant looking place it was and delicious chocolate
crepe smell drew us in. We were presented with Vintage chocolate drink menu
along with a delicious crepes. I tried ‘Los Ancones’ from the drinks Menu  , Organic chocolate from Santo Domingo,
texture was strong , you could inhale
hint of spice and oh boy.. That was heavenly delicious. -:)

I topped that with a chocolate strawberry crepe, there is something about
the way french people make their crepes. It was so light and crispy and I did  not feel
overwhelmed.  If you are in the area, I
would definitely recommend to check this chocolate bar , I wish we had
something like this in New Jersey. I mean there is plenty of Gelato places, but
not a chocolate bar.

Our next food stop was few yards away, A Boulangerie Patisseries Samos.  It was a corner bakery, not glamorous, but
they had a wide selection of cakes and pastries to choose from, We had tried
the beef empanada’s, great blended of ground beef, onions and cheese. That was
end of our day one trip and we headed back to the hotel stopping at La Vieille
Europe for a delicious espresso.
